ORIGIN
THE LAND BEFORE TIME
The story of Phi Phi is one of evolution. From prehistoric Indochina times to the present day. Phi Phi underwent geological and biological evolutions, which resulted in the unique landscape we admire today. We find our history in the forms of diverse native species as well as in the details of our architecture.
Inspired by Phi Phi’s history, UMA offers a unique opportunity of personal evolution, learning from nature and yourself.

We were inspired by the natural beauty of UMA and the pristine beauty of the Phi Phi Islands. As a result, we want to preserve the character of the region and develop a mindfulness experience where visitors may learn from nature. On the spiritual level, we compared UMA's mother nature to the Himmapan Forest.
Himmapan Forest, located at the foothills of Mount Sumeru, was created a sacred forest in Buddhist cosmology. The Himmapan Forest is abounding in magical creatures and nature.
We chose the great five peaks of the Himmapan Forest to be explored through five sense in UMA's design: sight, taste, smell, sound, and touch. As a result, we've combined Art and Nature to create five distinct experience as art installations, inviting visitors to reflect on the changing nature around them.

Reconnecting with nature
Nature trail
Nature is diverse at UMA, featuring rain forest, native grassland, a cluster of pioneer plants, and a forest framed oceanic views. The major trail starts at Beach Club and leads uphill to the area where the site's mother tree resides. Visitors can rest beneath the tree canopy in this spot before starting to explore UMA's various vegetation. The five art installations will be interwoven with nature trails in UMA.

NATURE IN UMA
The combination of materials we utilize glistens and shines, drawing inspiration from “Khanthanmat” mountain peak. In Thai traditional literature, the “Khanthanmat” mountain peak is renowned for its aura and its abundance of fragrant, exotic native plants. UMA beach club is the mountain’s modern interpretation with a hint of rustic elements.
